More direct connections

The current timetable includes two direct connections to Göschenen depending on the season (one from Basel, one from Zurich), as well as an additional direct connection with the Gotthard Weekender, which services the Gotthard-Panorama route with a direct train on weekends from 14 April to 22 October 2017 for leisure travel. As expansion continues, further direct trains are planned for 2018. In addition, the Gotthard-Panorama express will provide more direct connections in the Gotthard region from 15 April 2017, allowing for beautiful panorama journeys by ship and railway from Lucerne to Ticino, among other possibilities. In 2019, one of the two hourly connections between Lucerne and Zurich will be linked with the Zurich – Constance connection. From 2025, SBB wants to make connections between urban areas faster and more direct by using new tangential routes and stopping in high-traffic city railway stations such as Zurich Altstetten.
